Focus on the next destination.
Hello,
Happy Sunday. I hope your day is going well. Mine has been good so far, especially considering the things I’ve learned in the last twenty hours. This year has forced me to become more aware of my flaws—where I struggle and where I need intentional improvement. I hope you’re doing some self-evaluation too, because as I’ve written before, nothing changes when you approach every year doing the same thing.

If you know me well enough, you’d know I struggle a lot with anxiety. There are days I can go without sleeping when it kicks in, and it’s one of the things I wish I never had. I’ve spent money on expensive drugs and read countless books searching for relief, but none of it truly helped.
Then one day, while scrolling through Facebook, I came across a quote that caught my attention:
Focus on the next destination, not the entire map.
That single sentence spoke directly to me. One of the biggest triggers of my anxiety is setting too many goals and putting intense pressure on myself to accomplish them quickly. I’m always looking at the bigger picture, and when I do, I end up beating myself up for feeling like I’m behind or underachieving.
That quote changed how I looked at progress. Instead of obsessing over everything I hadn’t done, it reminded me to focus on what was directly in front of me. I sat with that thought for a long time, and slowly, it began to ease my anxiety.
Life is a journey where you’re always chasing something—growth, success, peace, clarity. Trying to picture everything at once can feel overwhelming and heavy. It adds pressure that we don’t always need. Instead, focus on the most crucial task in front of you. Do that, then proceed to the next one.
Brick by brick, the house gets built.
I’m learning to stop rushing the process and start trusting small, consistent steps. Not the entire map—just the next destination.
“Avoid overwhelming yourself with too many goals or changes at once. Pick the one thing that matters most to you, and go after it with laser focus.”
